Animal Control & Wildlife Information

Animal Control

Animal Control

The Lansing Police Department employs a part-time Animal Control Officer who works at various times throughout the week. Duties include:

  • Enforcing animal control ordinances within the city
  • Responding to animal complaints
  • Maintaining licensing and rabies vaccination records
  • Animal permit inspections
  • Educating the public on animal control ordinances and issues

Pet Registration Information - Licensing & Vaccination Information

Pets are required to be registered with the city.  All registered pets will receive a city tag, which when worn, will help officers and staff identify the pet and where the pet lives.  Our agency receives multiple calls on pets at large, lost and found pets, etc.   Pets wearing their city tags are more likely to avoid being taken to the shelter because staff is able to quickly identify where those pets belong.   This will save pet owners a lot of money and the pet will avoid the stress of being taken to a shelter.  Guidelines for getting your pet registered:

  • All dogs and cats over the age of four (4) months old are required to be licensed within the city of Lansing.
  • Owners must provide a current rabies certificate for each animal owned,  issued by a state licensed veterinarian, at time of licensing.
  • Licenses are issued to coincide with the animal's rabies vaccination.
