Overview

Unified in 1965 with a total enrollment of 838 students, the Lansing School District is one of several growing districts in Kansas. The Lansing Unified School District #469 provides a full range of educational opportunities from birth through 12th grade. The Lansing School District also houses the New Beginnings and LINCS (18-21) special education programs for Leavenworth County. The Lansing public school system serves approximately 2,600 students.

Accreditation

Each school in the Lansing School District meets all requirements for accreditation by the State's Quality Performance Accreditation Process. Lansing Unified School District #469 was recently ranked by Ingram's Magazine as one of the top schools in the Kansas City Metro area based on top test scores.

District Composition

The Lansing School District has 205 licensed staff, 196 classified staff and 13 administrators. Each attendance center has its own administrative, counseling, nursing and library staff. High quality staff development is essential for creating schools in which all students and staff members are life-long learners. Lansing school district staff is committed to the development and success of every child. The Lansing School District’s mission is to provide all students with the opportunity to gain scholastic, technical, social, and life-long learning skills essential for academic, occupational and personal success as a productive citizen.

The District occupies several campus locations:

• Lansing Elementary: Opened in 2008 and serves children from Kindergarten through 3rd grade.

• Lansing Intermediate School: Opened in 2018 and serves grades 4-5 as well as housing LINCS, a special education transitional program. Lansing's Parents as Teachers Organization is also located in the Intermediate School and offers home visits, developmental screens and playgroups for children ages birth-five years.

• Lansing Middle School: Serves students in grades 6 through 8; the Lansing District Auditorium is the "showcase" for both the District and the city of Lansing, with a capacity of more than 900.

• Lansing High School: Accommodates students in grades 9 through 12 with state-of-the-art educational spaces, technology advancements including an aquaponics system and robotics team, athletic fields and a competition swimming pool and combined diving well.

• Lansing Special Education Administrative Building: Housed in the old elementary school building close to the newly renovated Lansing Middle School. Programs there include the Early Childhood Program, Preschool and Child Care Center, Tiny K for Infants and Toddlers, a Day Treatment Program and the special education administrative offices.

• Lansing District Office: The District refurbished an old elementary school building to serve as the Board of Education office. This facility houses the Board of Education meeting room, district staff offices and the special education administrative staff.

Student Activities:

Lansing School District students have many learning opportunities that extend learning beyond the school buildings’ classrooms. Co-curricular, extra-curricular and community programs exist at every building level. Lansing High School has over 60 athletic and academic activities, with many teams emerging as league champions. Over the last ten years, the school district has had National Merit Scholars, appointees to the major military academies and Commended National Merit Scholars. The graduation rate in 2021 was 95 percent, which is above the state average of 88.3 percent. The Lansing School District enjoys the wide support of the community through business involvement in student fundraising and the Lansing Educational Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization. Colleges

The University of Saint Mary
The University of Saint Mary is a four-year Catholic liberal arts college conveniently located only minutes away from Lansing. USM was cited by The Princeton Review in 2006 as a "Best College in the Midwest." The University of Saint Mary prepares graduates for value-centered lives of learning, service and character. The University's mission is to educate students of diverse backgrounds to realize their God-given potential and prepare them for value-centered lives and careers that contribute to the well-being of our global society. Satellite campuses are located in Overland Park and Kansas City, Kansas. The University of St. Mary also offers online classes and degrees.

Kansas City Kansas Community College

Kansas City Kansas Community College was founded in 1923 and is a public, two-year community college. Its mission is to provide higher education and life-long learning to the varied communities in its service area, which includes Wyandotte and Leavenworth counties. Kansas City Kansas Community College provides an accessible and supportive learning environment which offers academic, career, and personal development opportunities.

Central Michigan University - Fort Leavenworth

With a main campus Located in Mt Pleasant, MI, Central Michigan University was established in 1892 as a school for teacher and business education. In 1971, Central Michigan University’s Global Campus was created to serve the needs of military personnel by providing degree programs onsite at military installations throughout the U.S. Today CMU Global Campus offers programs at over 50 locations in the United States, Canada and Mexico including 19 on military installations. We also serve a large number of students through our online programs worldwide. Programs offered include bachelor’s degree completion, master’s degrees (MA, MBA, MPA, MSA), doctoral degrees and professional/workforce development.
