Obtain your Contractor Code # from the Community and Economic Development Department (usually generated the first time you apply). Contact (913) 727-2400 with any questions for Building & Codes-related applications

Apply for a Building Permit
Please reference the applicable instructions:
Apply for a Certificate of Occupancy
(without a permit) A Certificate of Occupancy without a permit is issued when the building will be used the exact same way with no repairs or alterations to the establishment.
Apply for a Mechanical Permit
This application is for a commercial or residential mechanical heating, ventilation, or air conditioning permit.
Apply for a Trade License
This is an application exclusively for Electrical, Plumbing and Mechanical/HVAC Contractors who are located within or perform work inside of Lansing city limits.
Apply for an Electrical Permit
This application is for a commercial or residential electrical permit.
Apply for an Occupational License
This application is for Contractors (with the exception of Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing contractors) that are located within, or perform work inside the Lansing city limits.
Apply for a Plumbing Permit
This application is for a commercial or residential gas or plumbing permit.
Apply for a Sign Permit
This application is for sign permits for the City of Lansing, including permits for new signage on existing buildings, and political signs during election seasons.

The City of Lansing has and enforces Zoning, Property Maintenance and Health and Welfare Codes in order to protect the health, safety and general welfare of its citizens and the general public as well as protect and promote property values within the city.
