Police Officer and Police Officer II

The City of Lansing is currently seeking candidates for Police Officer and Police Officer II positions.

These positions provide law enforcement and public safety services to the community to include enforcement of criminal statutes and ordinances, traffic enforcement, crime prevention, patrol activity, accident investigation, resolution of domestic and other disturbances, prosecution support, and non-criminal public safety services. These positions require good communication skills & passing of various law enforcement tests. Patrol schedule included 8-hour shifts on a rotating basis.

Police Officer Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver’s license
  • Have a clean driving record
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Reside within a thirty-mile radius of City
  • No criminal record or Brady-Giglio material/issues in background

Police Officer Preferred qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college/university
  • Kansas Commission on Police Officer Standards and Training (KS-CPOST) certification

Police Officer II Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver’s license
  • Have a clean driving record
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Reside within a thirty-mile radius of City
  • No criminal record or Brady-Giglio material/issues in background
  • Kansas Commission on Police Officer Standards and Training (KS-CPOST) certification
  • 5 years experience with another Law Enforcement Agency
  • Instructor Certification in Law Enforcement related discipline, and teach 1 eight-hour class every calendar year.

Police Officer II Preferred qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college/university

Selected candidate(s) must:

  • Pass a physical agility test & written exam
  • Pass an extensive background check
  • Be interviewed by oral interview board
  • Be interviewed by the Chief of Police

Final candidate(s) must submit to:

  • A psychological evaluation
  • Physical/Health screening
  • Drug & Alcohol screening
  • Functional capacity test

Starting Pay Incentives:

  • Graduation from KLETC 2% Associates Degree 2% - Degree must be from an accredited college/university and must be in an applicable field.
  • Bachelors Degree 4% - Degree must be from an accredited college/university and must be in an applicable field.
  • Masters Degree 6% - Degree must be from an accredited college/university and must be in an applicable field.
  • Bi-lingual 2% - Applied to language(s) that serve the needs of the department.
  • Instructor Certification 2% - Instructor certification in a Law Enforcement related discipline and ability to teach one 8-hour course annually. Current KS-CPOST Certified with prior years of experience:
