Refuse Collection Service
The City contracts with Waste Management to provide residential refuse collection service for Lansing residents. The charge for this service is $19.00 per month. Senior citizens 65 or older can show proof of age to receive a discount. Please place refuse in securely tied disposable bags in the trash cart and set at the curb by 6:00 am every Thursday.
Trash Collection Hotline: if weather or holidays could potentially alter the trash/recycling schedule, call 913.364.6869 for a pre-recorded message detailing any changes.
Your refuse collection will be picked up as follows:
- All residential refuse will be picked up on Thursdays.
Holidays: Waste Management observes the following holidays. If normal trash pickup falls on or follows one of the following holidays, trash will be picked up one day later on Friday:
- New Year's Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
Trash stickers: Any trash bags that do not fit inside the cart require overflow stickers. The stickers are $2.00 each, or a sheet of five for $10.00. Stickers can be purchased at City Hall, 800 1st Terr. between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday - Friday.
Cart repair/replacement or an additional cart
Please call City Hall at 913.727.2487 to report a damaged cart that needs to be repaired or replaced. You may also request an additional trash cart for an extra monthly fee of $10.00. One additional recycling cart is available at no cost.
Bulk Item Pick Up: Each residence is allowed on complimentary bulk item pick up per year. Contact Waste Management at 800.964.8988 to schedule this pick up. You must provide the following customer ID#: 55019966662.
Yard Waste: Brush and tree limbs must be cut into three foot lengths and either be boxed, bagged, or tied into bundles.
Residents may set out up to 12 bags/bundles per week from March 1 - Nov. 30. Between Dec. 1 and Feb. 28, yard waste will only be picked up on the first collection day of each month.
Packing boxes will be picked up with regular refuse. It is requested that they be broken down and tied into bundles.
