Council member Jesse Garvey was appointed to the City Council in January 2013 to fill the remainder of an unexpired term.

Council member Garvey previously served on the Board of Zoning Appeals. He has been a resident of Lansing's Ward 3 since 2000.

Garvey was born in Leavenworth in 1967 and graduated from Leavenworth High School. He moved to Lansing in 2000. Council member Garvey is a member of Calvary Baptist Church and has served in various positions there, including his current position as Adult Sunday School Teacher. Garvey is the President of the Carriage Hills HOA.

Garvey is currently employed at Z-Force Transportation in Kansas City, Kansas. Garvey enjoys creating and maintaining back yard water features. He is nicknamed "the Pond guy." Garvey also enjoys golfing, hunting, targeting shooting, fishing and traveling. He married his wife, Brenda, on Oct. 29, 1988. They have two children. His daughter Sarra, a 2011 Lansing High School graduate, is married and has a son, Jameson, born in 2019. Garvey's son, Greg, is a 2014 Lansing High School graduate.
