Planning and Zoning
City staff is available in the Community Development Division (located at 730 First Terrace in Suite 2) to help you with your planning and zoning questions.
When necessary, staff will review and send requests made by residents, developers and business owners to the Planning Commission or the Board of Zoning Appeals for consideration. The Comprehensive Plan, adopted March 2001, is the guide for future growth in Lansing. Included in this plan are:
- Long range recommendations for land use
- Transportation
- Community facilities
- Parks and recreation
- The Main Street Corridor
- The annexation policy
The Planning Commission is a seven-member board. The length of the appointed term is three years. This board meets the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm in the Council Chambers, located in City Hall. The commission acts on all planning and zoning requests and makes recommendations to the Mayor and City Council on such issues.
Board of Zoning Appeals
The Board of Zoning Appeals is a five-member board that meets as needed to consider specific requests for variances and appeals of the zoning ordinance.
