Effective Fri., Nov. 27, the city of Lansing requires individuals to wear masks in public spaces to protect citizen health and welfare from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Ordinance 1050 will remain in effect through Jan. 31, 2021 subject to continued monitoring of local COVID infection rates.

Ordinance 1050 was approved on Nov. 24, 2020 by the Lansing City Council. Included in the text are acceptable exemptions to the ordinance, particularly with regard to medical conditions. The ordinance also specifies penalties for non-compliance. Definitions for what constitutes a mask, public space and other terms are included.

Lansing businesses will be provided with a letter explaining the ordinance and each businesses’ responsibility to assist with compliance. A template for business window signage will also be provided. Lansing businesses will also be offered a limited supply of masks, free of charge, upon request.
