As we move deeper into December, Lansing officials are reminding residents about rules related to citizen responsibilities during winter storm situations.

Lansing sidewalk snow and ice removal policy: In general, residents have 24 hours after the end of the snow/ice event to clear the sidewalk immediately adjacent to the property. If the sidewalk has not been cleared within 48 hours after the storm (and after City staff verification,) residents will be made aware of the violation. Parking restrictions during snow and ice eventsIn general, residents are encouraged to avoid parking on the streets and prohibited in doing so where “No Parking During Snow” signs are posted on Emergency Snow Routes. The City/Police Dept. has the authority to cite and/or tow vehicles along these routes. Residents should be aware of these rules to ensure an effective response to winter weather by our staff.

Specific requirements for these policies can be found at www.lansingks.org, (City Code sections 14-112 and 15-309) Here is a direct link. For more information, call 913-727-2400.
